The Austrian painter whose personality and paintings still shape the atmosphere of the villa today – and to whom the house owes its name.
Franz Feuchtl only took up painting at the age of 78. In the years until his death he created more than 700 works – mostly gouaches on paper. His work has a poetic and symbolic quality, full of subtlety and nuance.
In his richly coloured paintings he gave form to his personal visions. Franz Feuchtl did not paint visible, scientific reality, but what lies behind it. You can sense how he draws from a deep well – so immediate, passionate and full of surprises are his pictures.
A selection of his works is still on display at Haus Feuchtl in Purkersdorf near Vienna, where the painter lived and worked until his death. To this day they shape the unmistakable artistic atmosphere of the villa.
The artistic legacy of Franz Feuchtl is preserved and presented in the Feuchtl Collection – together with works by other Austrian artists. Discover the original paintings online.
